St. Joseph’s College honored the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on Friday, Sept. 9, during a remembrance ceremony in front of SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall.
Campus Minister S. Susan Wilcox, CSJ, and the Rev. Charles Byrd, president of the SJC Brooklyn chapter of the Student Veterans of America, delivered remarks during a heartfelt afternoon ceremony attended by students, professors and administrators. Biology Professor Michael Hanophy sang “God Bless America.”
Three graduates of St. Joseph’s College – Jennifer Mazzotta ’00, Paul Rizza, ’99 and
Richard Catarelli ’76 – perished during the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. In 2005, SJC installed a plaque and dedicated the Memorial Courtyard behind St. Angela Hall to the memory of the fallen alumni and to alumni family members who were killed on Sept. 11.
During the week leading up to the 15th anniversary of the tragic event, SJC placed thousands of American flags on the Tuohy Hall lawn, to represent the lives lost on Sept. 11.
