SJC Brooklyn graduates teaching at area schools are glad they chose the adolescence education program at St. Joseph’s College to ignite their teaching careers.
Brendan Moloney spent his undergraduate career immersing himself in the College community.
“When I was looking at schools, St. Joseph’s College seemed like the best fit for me,” said Moloney ’17, who majored in English with a concentration in adolescence education, and who now teaches 8th grade at St. Patrick Catholic Academy in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
“It had a plethora of majors and academic opportunities, and its student body and administration were welcoming and energetic,” he continued. “They were a genuine, close-knit family that I knew I had to be a part of.”
The adolescence education programs are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). The department prepares students for Initial Certification in secondary education.
SJC Brooklyn’s secondary education students are part of a collaborative and supportive community. They graduate ready for careers in the classroom. The program consistently ranks among the best teaching programs in the New York metropolitan area, boasting a high job placement rating.
A religion teacher at Fontbonne Hall Academy, Michele Cipriano earned a bachelor’s in history with a concentration in adolescence education. She credited the program for giving her the tools essential to succeed as an educator.
“I always wanted to have a job that had meaning to it,” Cipriano said. “I wanted to have a career that could help others. Being a teacher gives you a chance to help students grow and learn.”
