St. Joseph’s College has established an emergency assistance fund to help the students who have been affected most by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and the impact its had on the College’s campuses and programs.
COVID-19 Student Emergency Assistance Fund will provide critical resources to directly help SJC students. It will also be used to assist SJC offices and departments in meeting immediate and emergency needs to ensure academic continuity and success of the student body.

“Many of our alumni and friends have asked how they can help,” said Flavio Bollag, St. Joseph’s executive director of development. “We know that many students lives have already been disrupted and that every bit of help will ensure that they can fully participate in online learning and continue making progress toward their degree.”

Bollag said the fund will address the following areas:
- Technology and equipment to provide connectivity and support remote learning.
- Food and housing insecurity.
- Daily living and transportation costs.
- Other emergency and unforeseen expenses as needed.
St. Joseph’s officials noted that COVID-19 has already had a profound impact on students, changing their daily routine and negatively affecting their opportunities to work and earn funds to support their education. The College is working to identify students with emergency needs and to provide ongoing, flexible support when and where necessary.
“SJC has a rich tradition of alumni stepping up to help students, including through scholarships and other assistance,” said Rory Shaffer-Walsh, St. Joseph’s vice president for institutional advancement. “We are already seeing the impact of Covid-19 on many of our students. Every gift will help.
“We want to be sure that every SJC student can continue and thrive in this unpredictable time,” she added.
