Welcome to SJC Long Island, where free food is always in abundance and SAGE serves up fresh, quick and tasty options. But, if you are looking to grab a meal off campus with friends, there are five places you should try because they offer a delicious menu and you get a discount with your SJC ID.
1. Berry Good Yogurt Café
The self-serve frozen yogurt café offers 14 flavors of yogurt that you can swirl or combine and a buffet of more than 50 toppings that range from strawberries and chocolate-covered pretzels to Nutella. With an SJC ID, you can get 10 percent off your order, no matter how high you pile on the toppings.
2. Rudi’s Bar and Grill
If you head north on Route 112, you’ll find a restaurant nestled in a small shopping center that offers friendly service and a menu that lists food items named after Patchogue-Medford heroes and celebrities. Two SJC alumni own Rudi’s and SJC students can get a burger and a soda for $6 on weekdays between 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and 10 percent off your regular-priced meal any other time. Also, there are 15 flavors of wings and you can try all 15 for All-You-Can-Eat Wing Night on Tuesdays.
3. Subzero Ice Cream
As an SJC family-owned and operated business, this newcomer to downtown Patchogue offers ice cream sundaes, Italian ice, smoothies and shakes. Subzero uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the ice cream or ice and you get to watch them go through the interesting process. It only takes about 15-30 seconds. You can choose items to mix in with your ice cream or select an already concocted Sensation from their menu. Use your SJC ID and get yourself a 10-percent discount on a cup of cold happiness.
4. Noodles & Company
Not only does Noodles & Company serve pasta, pad thai and pan noodles, it also offers a selection of soups, salads and sandwiches from all over the world. If you show up with your SJC ID, you can get an entire bowl of noodles with meat or tofu and a drink for $9.99. Each bowl is made to order with all-natural ingredients, so you get to choose what goes in and what is left out. Your group can even start with an appetizer, if you plan on hanging out. Noodles & Company offers potstickers, meatballs and garlic bread to complement your meal.
5. Sweet n Savory
If you can’t decide whether you want lunch or dessert, Sweet n Savory is perfect. You can get a sweet crepe like the #15 which combines bananas, cookie dough, cannoli cream and hot fudge or a savory crepe like the #25 which is named after SJC Long Island’s mascot Hot Wyngz and mixes buffalo chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese and bleu cheese or ranch dressing. If you order the Hot Wyngz crepe, $1 gets donated to the College. Enjoy a delicious meal and give back to your college — who’s better than you?
