The St. Joseph’s College community stepped up and played a vital role Wednesday toward helping students to stay in school and on track to graduate amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The College’s second annual Giving Day has raised nearly $38,000 from 285 donors, as of 4 p.m. today.
The Giving Day campaign is a 24-hour fundraiser that celebrates St. Joseph the Worker Day. The 2020 fundraiser is focusing on the needs of St. Joseph’s College students during the coronavirus pandemic.
The campaign is also seeing early successes in its program fundraisers.
The College surpassed its goal in the Undergraduate New Student Book Fund, raising $1,125. The fund will help new undergraduates at SJC Online afford their College textbooks.
Other programs — including funding training for SJC student nurses and support for students participating in service programs — are quickly nearing their fundraising goals. The community raised more than $1,700 for the nursing program and $1,000 supporting service projects with nearly eight hours remaining in the fundraising event.
The fundraiser is also raising money for the COVID-19 Student Emergency Assistance Fund, Student Emergency Fund (tuition assistance), the College’s food pantries, and the general SJC Fund.
Vice President for Institutional Advancement Rory Shaffer-Walsh said she is grateful to see so many people coming together to support St. Joseph’s College students.
“On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, we express our thanks and appreciation to everyone who has donated and supported SJC’s Giving Day 2020,” she said. “This is a special moment, and every gift really makes a difference.”
