St. Joseph’s President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., appeared live via Skype on the Catholic Faith Network’s CFN Live program on Monday, Oct. 5, to provide an update on the College’s reopening and how the fall semester has been going thus far.
In the interview with Emmy Award-winning news anchor Colleen McVey, Dr. Boomgaarden credited the College’s successful reopening to the SJC community’s diligent adherence to all health and safety guidelines, ensuring the campuses remain safe and secure.
Dr. Boomgaarden also provided details about the College’s recently launched COVID dashboard, which provides daily updates on the status of positive cases at both campuses.

“We’ve been able to come into the semester in as good of a condition as we could have expected, so we’re very happy about that,” he said during the broadcast. “We’re seeing enrollment increases in some areas that are directly related to the COVID crisis — nursing, health care administration, biology and medical technology are majors that are actually growing this year.”
Later this month, Maria Fletcher, Ph.D., director of SJC’s nursing program, will appear on CFN Live to highlight the nursing program, and discuss other current events.
Dr. Boomgaarden recently completed filming new episodes of the CFN series “Living Our Mission,” which features familiar faces from SJC and covers a broad range of topics from racial injustice and COVID-19 to SJC’s mission and the liberal arts. The new episodes will begin airing on Catholic Faith Network later this fall.
