SJC Long Island’s Council for the Arts will welcome internationally renowned artist Ejay Weiss as the fall 2016 Artist in Residence. His work will be on display from Oct. 9 through Nov. 18 in the Board Room Gallery of O’Connor Hall.
Weiss, whose work is inspired by the splendor of nature and its vast array of organic processes, will host an artist reception Monday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. Additionally, Weiss will lead an artist talk in the Shea Conference Room at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.
For five decades, Weiss’ pieces have been inspired by nature, physics, evolution and geologic processes. Notable this September, four of his large, nine-panel 9/11 Elegy: Ghost City series of paintings are featured at the inaugural art exhibition entitled: Rendering the Unthinkable: Artists Respond to 9/11. The exhibition commemorates the 15th anniversary of 9/11 at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan.
Throughout his residency, Weiss conducts a series of workshops and talks discussing how the second dimension can utilize a global perspective, and the ways critical mass and entropy are embedded within the macro/microcosm of his canvas.
