SJC Brooklyn’s Campus Ministry organized a community service activity on Oct. 2 to clean up an overgrown area so that pre-kindergarten students would have their playground back — thanks to the support of Giving Day donations.
Campus Ministry Director Sister Marie Mackey, C.S.J. ’84, used donations from Giving Day 2020 — a 24-hour fundraiser where donors support an array of projects proposed by St. Joseph’s students, faculty and staff — to purchase supplies to help the cleanup, including rakes, brooms, gloves and large garbage bags.
Campus Ministry projects are completed year-round and include all types of service — in our local communities and sometimes throughout the region and the country.
Service toward a better world is at the heart of SJC’s history and mission. Campus Ministry had the opportunity to follow that mission with the community service due, in large part, to the generous donations from the SJC community. On Giving Day 2019, the College received $2,605 for service projects — more than doubling its goal of $1,500.
