St. Joseph’s University, New York is preparing for its 106th annual commencement ceremony, set for Thursday, May 22 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
This year’s ceremony will celebrate more than 1,100 students across the University’s Brooklyn, Long Island and Online campuses.
The class of 2025 will be the fourth to receive degrees under St. Joseph’s official title as a university.
During the 106th annual commencement ceremony, SJNY will recognize the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, NY as the founders of St. Joseph’s University and in honor of the 375th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in France. In recognition of their academic, social, spiritual and environmental impact on the University and the community, St. Joseph’s University will present the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, NY with its Board of Trustees award.
Accepting the award on the behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph are faculty, staff and alumnae of the University, including S. Grace Rowland, CSJ, Ph.D.; S. Tesa Fitzgerald, CSJ, M.A.; S. Angela Gannon, CSJ, M.A.; S. Helen Kearney ’67, CSJ, Ph.D.; S. Kathleen McKinney ’71, CSJ, Ed.D.; and S. Marie Mackey ’84, CSJ, M.S., M.A.
Commencement Prep
To prepare for the big day, SJNY hosted “Cappy Hour” events where Class of 2025 students were presented with supplies to decorate their graduation caps. Hosted on April 21 in Long Island and April 24 in Brooklyn, the event offered supplies and a variety design options.
Additionally, graduate portraits were organized from April 1- 3 and April 21-22 for Long Island students, and April 23-24 for Brooklyn students.
Signage has popped up on both campuses, offering congratulations to the Class of 2025, along with the University’s official commencement hashtag for social media— #SJNYGRAD
Valedictorian Presentations
Last but certainly not least, SJNY’s annual Toast to the Graduates will occur May 13 for those on the Brooklyn campus and May 15 for those on the Long Island campus.
The meaningful and memorable celebration will also see valedictorians from both campuses address their graduating class. In addition, the Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action award will be presented to students on both campuses at the Toast to the Graduates events.
