Continuing its long and rich history of supporting their alma mater, St. Joseph’s College alumni gathered in September to dedicate SJC Long Island’s newly refurbished Board Room in O’Connor Hall; renaming it the Alumni Board Room.
The initiative was spearheaded by longtime alumni board member and former director of alumni relations for SJC Long Island, Matt Colson ’02, and supported through the many dedicated members of the Alumni Association Board.
The board was inspired by the College’s beautification project to make a strong push for increasing philanthropy among SJC graduates and felt they should lead by example. They wanted to help the College move forward by investing their dollars.
“(We) felt that St. Joe’s deserved it and we wanted to be a part of the project,” Colson said.
One-hundred percent of the board made the commitment to participate in the Annual Fund by each pledging $1,000.
The board entrusted SJC President Dr. Jack P. Calareso and Senior Vice President Dr. Christopher Frost to identify a project needing attention. Renovations to the board room include a state-of-the-art wireless technology system, new power-sourced table with phone conferencing capabilities, new carpeting and chairs, a chandelier, a retractable projection screen and projector and new track lighting.
“It’s everything that we thought it would be. A place we could be proud to come to,” said longtime alumni board member Matt Barbis ’94. “We want as many alums to have the pride in the school that we do. Our hope is that more and more alums would want to join after they see what we’ve been able to achieve.”
“This is just the beginning,” Colson added. “The first of many projects.”
