A Natural Born Leader

Eva Jefferson-Page ’22 makes a positive mark in every room she enters. Her warm spirit, infectious laugh and ability to inspire students to get involved at the Brooklyn Campus of St. Joseph’s University, New York is among the many reasons students look up to her as a leader.

During the annual Toast to Graduates event at the Brooklyn Campus last month, Board of Trustees Chairman Christopher R. Carroll ’88, Esq., recognized her perpetual dedication to leadership, while presenting her with the second annual Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action Award.

The award, named in honor of the University’s president, recognizes two graduating seniors — one from the Long Island Campus and one from the Brooklyn Campus — who have embraced characteristics of positive leadership, have continuously displayed traits that contribute to a positive campus environment and who have supported connections between various campus groups aimed to enhance the quality of student life. Award recipients exemplify St. Joseph’s core values, infuse them within their daily life, and find a unique way to promote them through direct or indirect community involvement on and off campus.

In her nomination letter, Carroll said Jefferson-Page’s recommender wrote that she is deserving of this award because she checks each of these boxes, and more.

A Student Leader at the Brooklyn Campus of St. Joseph’s University, New York

Jefferson-Page, a child study major and speech minor, is president of the campus’ Student Government Association (SGA). She is a three-time orientation leader, a peer mentor, and a member of a slew of clubs, including the Music Performance Club, Black Student Association, Campus Ministry, Students Join Through Christ, Women’s Empowerment, Child Study Club, Be the Match and SJC Squared. She also serves on the Diversity and Inclusion board.

Outside of St. Joseph’s, Jefferson-Page volunteers at the food pantry at her church, Second St. Paul Church of Christ in East New York.

“St. Joseph’s University is my home away from home,” Jefferson-Page said. “I learned the importance of education — but also the importance of being a great leader. Being here for these four amazing years really taught me the importance of love, unity and reconciliation. It’s going to be hard leaving the great experiences of my undergraduate days as I enter the Master’s in Special Education program, but I’m glad I can still say I’m a student here at St. Joe’s!”
