St. Joseph’s College President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., wishes the College community a very happy St. Patrick’s Day.
And he makes his warm wishes special by sitting at the piano on campus and playing his improvisation of three popular Irish tunes.
“When I was growing up, I was always playing the piano, and my mother and father loved to hear me play,” Dr. Boomgaarden says, before his St. Patrick’s Day medley. “And whenever we had any guests over to the house, I frequently was asked to perform. And one of the favorite things (my parents) used to do was ask guests to simply come up with titles of songs, and I was supposed to improvise on them.
“I thought it would be fun to do some improvisations on some Irish songs,” he added.
