St. Joseph’s College graduates spanning four decades gathered in The Hill Center on Saturday for Alumni Day.
The event — organized through a combined effort by the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Athletic Department — featured a series of basketball games and a tailgate party at nearby Graziella’s Restaurant.
SJC graduates hit the basketball court at 9:30 a.m. for the College’s annual alumni contest, featuring “younger” alumni (Class of 2019 back to about 2012) versus “older” alumni. It was a close game and despite a furious comeback from the older squad, the younger alumni prevailed, 92-89. Victoria Porcasi, a Class of 2019 graduate and a former guard on the women’s basketball team, closed the game in style with a last-second three-pointer. Everyone appeared to agree that Porcasi, who holds an SJC child study degree, was the MVP of the game.
The group enjoyed a tailgate party at Graziella’s after the game, before heading back to The Hill Center for part two of Alumni Day: watching the men’s and women’s basketball games.
The women’s basketball team won 57-54, taking down Manhattanville College, who is in second place in the Skyline Conference. The men’s basketball team lost to Manhattanville, 69-58.
Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement Stephanie McCoy said the event is a great way to help alumni reconnect or stay connected with St. Joseph’s.
“This year’s Alumni and Family Day at The Hill Center event was a perfect mix of tradition versus the future, with alumni represented from the past four decades,” McCoy said. “It was successful in bringing back SJC nostalgia with the reconnection of older alumni, while providing inspiration to the younger alumni. The event encompassed a great day of fun, food, basketball, family and of course SJC alumni.”
