The St. Joseph’s University, New York — Brooklyn Campus community joined together last week in the Tuohy Hall auditorium for the 2022 Honors and Student Research Symposium.

Display boards from more than 40 Brooklyn Campus students lined the perimeter of the auditorium, featuring seven departments — art, science, history, mathematics, biology, sociology and psychology. During the ceremony Michael Burke, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy and director of the Honors program, and Michael Magee, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology and director of undergraduate research, congratulated the students on their hard work.
“I’m especially happy today and proud our seniors — this is a fantastic culmination of all their hard work and effort over these past four years,” Dr. Burke said. “As we can all attest, this has been a very rough period of time for us. We’ve been through some knots, but we come out stronger … Our students not only survived these past four years, but they thrived. And they not only excelled as students, but they committed to community and scholarship.”
The ceremony also featured paper presentations and an opportunity for attendees to walk around the auditorium, view the display boards summarizing the student research, and ask the student researchers questions about their work.
Research topics spanned from such topics as violence in the NBA, labor and delivery nursing, the relationship between social media and disordered eating, the role of physical activity in the recovery of alcohol abuse disorder, and a study of isoprene reactions with nitrate radical.
