This week, there are multiple ways to celebrate Diversity and Inclusion Week on both campuses, providing students with opportunities to participate in events to showcase and celebrate different cultures.
Relating to the University’s five pillars, Diversity and Inclusion Week honors social responsibility and by celebrating others, students are working towards a society that is inclusive and understanding.
Below is a list of the events hosted this week:
- We Are Many Parts. Sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry on the Long Island Campus, we will be celebrating our gifts and talents. Make sure you stop by the table outside of Campus Ministry in the Student Center at any time during the week.
- Dia de Muertos: Day of the Dead Celebration. Join the Long Island Campus Diversity Union on Tuesday, November 5 in the Shea Conference Room during common hour to learn about the cultural significance of Día de Muertos.
- DEI Panel Discussion: Bridging the Gaps: Addressing Health Disparities in Underrepresented Groups With Neuroinfectious Diseases. Organized by the Brooklyn Campus’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and the Brooklyn Department of Psychology, a panel event on Wednesday, November 6 will feature guest speakers from Hunter College, the City University of New York, and the University of Warsaw, Poland. Join us for discussions on health disparities faced by underrepresented groups of people struggling with neuroinfectious diseases, including older women with HIV, LGBTQ+ and children with long-term COVID-19. The event will take place in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium during common hour. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
- Envisioning Equity. On Wednesday, November 6, Long Island’s Center for Counseling and Wellness and Diversity Union invite students to paint self-portraits of what health and diversity look like to you. The event will take place in the McGann Conference Center during common hour.
- Diversity and Inclusion. On Thursday, November 7, a panel discussion addressing stigma and mental health challenges during and after the COVID-19 pandemic will take place in the McGann Conference Center during common hour. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
