St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) President Dr. Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., will host two recitals this spring alongside assistant teaching professor at the University and accomplished soloist Veronica Kaninska, M.S.Ed, C.T.R.S.
The two will be performing the works of Russian composer, virtuoso pianist and conductor Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff including the Prelude, Op. 3 No. 2 in C-Sharp Minor, as well as two preludes from the Op. 23 collection. Additionally, Ms. Kaninska’s vocal accompaniment will include Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14 and Zdes’khorosho from Op. 2.
This year’s performances will be held on the Long Island Campus on Thursday, April 24 in The Muriel & Virginia Pless Center for Performing Arts, and on the Brooklyn Campus on Tuesday, April 29 in Tuohy Hall Auditorium. Both recitals will occur during common hour, starting at 12:40 p.m.
During this time, President Boomgaarden will discuss the historical context of Rachmaninoff’s unique works and musical style.
Both events are free and open to the public.
