Harry Voulgarakis, Ph.D, BCBA-D, assistant professor of child study St. Joseph’s University, New York, spoke at The ELIJA Foundation’s Long Island Behavior Analysis Conference (LIBAC). The annual event gathers professionals in the field of behavior analysis for two days of keynote presentations, interactive workshops and panel discussions.
Dr. Voulgarakis’ afternoon keynote presentation, “Toward a More Meaningful Human Science: A Behavior Analysis for Everyone,” was delivered on Dec. 6, 2024.
“This keynote was an experimental lecture that explored how behavior analysis can address more complex human challenges,” noted Dr. Voulgarakis. “Traditionally focused on observable and measurable behaviors, the field is evolving to incorporate advanced language and cognition theories, such as relational frame theory and functional contextualism. We discussed the role of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a growing therapeutic modality with a strong evidence base, in helping practitioners better support individuals dealing with human suffering and diverse needs.”
Last fall, Dr. Voulgarakis was recognized by the New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA) for exceptional service, mentorship and leadership in the field of psychology.
Presenting at LIBAC aligns with Dr. Voulgarakis’ commitment to advancing behavior analysis to address real-world complexities.
“As faculty in our thriving ABA program at SJNY, which offers both a Master’s and advanced certificate in ABA, sharing this research highlights the program’s leadership in contemporary, evidence-based practices. Additionally, the ELIJA Foundation has been a valued local partner, offering fieldwork and educational opportunities for our students,” he said. “It was a pleasure to be invited to share this work with them and the broader behavior analysis community.”
