Graduates of SJC Brooklyn’s English Department leave the College as critical thinkers with encouraging mentors, and the confidence to lead a successful career.

Mira Milkhiker, a Class of 2017 graduate, enrolled in St. Joseph’s College English department as a transfer student and a new mother.
“I am immensely grateful to my professors in the English department at St. Joe’s,” said Milkhiker. “The amount of support, understanding, encouragement and patience I received from each one of my professors made me excel in my
studies and graduate with a degree that I am proud of.”
Students in the English department dive in and learn about the history and politics of literary art from dedicated professors who are experts in their fields. With the College’s intimate class sizes, students join a unique and supportive learning environment, where they discover their own talents while being immersed in literary history.
Na’Quan Bush, a 2018 graduate, said the program prepared him to continue his education.

“The English department at St. Joseph’s College gave me the tools I needed to excel in graduate school. I was taught the importance of diligence, commitment and refinement of one’s voice. Without such a fantastic faculty, I never would have found myself earning a master’s degree at Columbia University.”
A degree in English opens countless doors for alumni of the program. Many graduates go on to work in teaching, journalism, law, publishing and many other fields.
“For anyone who is thinking of getting their degree in English at SJC — do it,” Milkhiker said. “Not only will you learn how to analyze complex texts and think critically, but you will also grow and become a confident person with an amazing support system full of professors who care about your progress and who are passionate about what they teach.”
