If you’re looking for a chance to develop your leadership skills this semester, look no further. SJC Long Island offers plenty of opportunities to become more involved and gain leadership experience this spring.
From joining one of the College’s student government organizations to becoming an orientation leader or taking part in a leadership series, students will develop skills that will help them succeed no matter what career their future holds.
Join the Student Government Association (SGA):
As a member of the SGA, you’ll help advocate for each and every student at SJC Long Island. The SGA meets with all club leaders bimonthly, where they make executive decisions regarding all student body activities, including events and the creation of new clubs. The following positions will be opening in 2022:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
Applications will be available from Monday, Feb. 7, through Monday, March 7. Elections will take place after that.
Become an Orientation Team Leader:
Get ready to offer guidance to new students, both traditional and nontraditional, as well as their parents. Provide information about campus life, including athletics, clubs and organizations, and the many resources available.
Applications will be available from Monday, Feb. 7, through Monday, March 7. Interviews will be scheduled beginning March 9.
Join the Campus Activities Board (CAB):
Members of CAB help plan exciting, engaging and entertaining events and programs for the entire campus community to enjoy, both on and off campus. The following positions will be opening in 2022:
- Program Director: Oversee and facilitate the budget, events and member relations.
- Operations Manager: Organize charity events, highlight the positive image of CAB to the SJC community and keep track of minutes at all meetings scheduled.
- Events Coordinator: Be in charge of booking, publicizing, budgeting, and organizing multiple Common Hour and evening events.
Applications will be available from Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 15. Interviews will occur later in the semester.
Gain Experience with SJC LEAD:
SJC LEAD is a leadership experience program developed by the Office of Student Involvement, Leadership and Intercultural Engagement. The program will take place from March through April. All students are encouraged to join these seminars, as they will help students hone valuable leadership skills, develop character and grow in their own leadership.
