Happiness. Well-being. Inner peace.
SJNY students are currently on a quest for that and more during a faculty-led study abroad trip in Japan.
As part of the courses PSY 330/PHI 370: Zen and Existential Philosophy, Brooklyn Campus students journeyed to Japan to explore Eastern culture with Peter Lin, Ph.D., associate chair and professor of psychology; and Michael Burke, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy.
“Students are participating in contemplative practice, such as meditating in Zen gardens and learning the tea ceremony,” explained Dr. Lin, coordinator of SJNY’s mindfulness and contemplative living minor. “This course is a journey not only to the far East, but a journey to our inner world.”
The trip began Wednesday, June 5, and ends Saturday, June 15. Before returning home, students will have visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Miyajima and Hiroshima.
