The Office of Campus Ministry at the Long Island Campus hosted the 2023-2024 academic year’s first liturgy service on Wednesday afternoon inside the McGann Conference Center.
Billed as the annual Mass on the Grass event, the service was conducted indoors in anticipation of inclement weather. In years past, Mass on the Grass was held in the Outside Quad in front of O’Connor Hall.
Newly appointed Director of Campus Ministry Jonathan Galo was on hand for his first mass at St. Joseph’s, and Father Francis “Frank” Pizzarelli led the sermon.
“I think as a University community, the scripture today reminds us that we have to keep in check what’s important,” Fr. Frank said.
“We’re part of an academic community constantly being challenged to learn all we can. But we also need to be reminded that learning needs to be used to build a more socially just and fair world,” he continued.
More than two dozen Long Island Campus community members attended the service – St. Joseph’s President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., among them.
