Members of clubs, athletic teams and Greek life at SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island took part in this year’s American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walks on Sunday, Oct. 16. Representing the college at both Prospect Park and Jones Beach, the St. Joseph’s College contingent helped raise awareness and funds.
SJC Long Island’s Day at the Beach
At Jones Beach, the SJC Long Island group joined more than 50,000 other participants who walked for breast cancer research and helped raise more than $1.3 million. The group included members of the Patchogue campus’ Theta Phi Alpha sorority, dance team, softball team, and men’s basketball team.
SJC Brooklyn’s Walk in the Park
Meanwhile, SJC Brooklyn groups joining the Making Strides effort at Prospect Park helped raise more than $420,000 toward research. Among those representing St. Joseph’s were the Beta Upsilon Delta sorority, the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity and the SJC Brooklyn honors program.
The noncompetitive, inspirational event raised awareness and funds to end breast cancer and provided hope to ensure no one faces breast cancer alone.
