Members of the SJC Brooklyn community filed into the Kennedy Chapel in Burns Hall last week for a special mass in recognition of National Catholic Sisters Week.
The Rev. Juan Luxama led the service, attended by about a dozen people — including Sister Margaret Buckley ’55, C.S.J., Ed.D. The mass also featured a reading by Christian Branch, assistant for campus events and technical services.
“Today is a great day to celebrate the sisters,” Fr. Juan said.
S. Margaret, a field placement coordinator for St. Joseph’s, said she enjoyed the mid-day service.
“It was a pleasure to be present at the Mass for Sisters Week,” S. Margaret said. “I was touched by the presence and support of the many staff and faculty who share our ministry at the College. Thank you to all who organized the day.”
Branch, who graduated from SJC Brooklyn in 2011, said the service was the perfect way to celebrate Sisters Week.
“I love being able to take time out of a busy day for Mass,” Branch said. “This day was even more special because the special intention for the Mass was for the Sisters of St. Joseph.
“Being that the College will be on Spring Break when the actual St. Joseph’s Day occurs, it was a beautiful way to honor the sisters who have given so much to the College since its inception.”
