These are just three examples of what SJC Long Island students can learn about in 15 new and unique courses offered this fall.
POL 245: Activism and Political Organizing
Students interested in politics get the chance to work closely with former six-term U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, studying political issues and the 2020 election. Throughout the semester, students will attend Bishop’s weekly seminars, in addition to meeting in a classroom. This course fulfills the Self and Society core requirement.
ART 163: Crafts as an Art Form
In this studio art course, students learn craft techniques, explore creative expressions and gain an understanding of the cultural history behind the various forms of art. Students will use a variety of media, such as clay, mosaic, textiles, glass, paper and/or wood. Students do not need experience to join the class — beginners are welcome! The course counts for the Diversity core credit. The course will meet Wednesdays, 1:40–4:35 p.m.
CJ 370: Digital Forensics in Offender Supervision
Explore digital forensics as applied to the field of offender supervision in the new criminal justice course. Analyze the use of computer forensics in community supervision. Discussions include types of forensic examinations, applicable populations, internet monitoring and ethical concerns. Additionally, students will compare the following concepts in offender supervision with general policing practices: standards of proof and forensic practices, including search, seizure, examinations and digital evidence management. Students will participate in instructor-led case examinations. The class meets Wednesdays, 1:40–4:40 p.m.
