Michelle Wilcox felt a sense of belonging at SJC Long Island, even before she transferred to the College in 2019.
“Choosing SJC was absolutely the right choice for me, because I have been able to continue my student involvement and leadership development just as I started while at SCCC,” said Wilcox, a senior accounting major who was 33 when she started at St. Joseph’s. “I have made lifelong connections with so many people in the SJC community and cannot wait to become an active member of the SJC alumni community.”
The 34-year-old Westhampton resident is president of the campus’ Accounting Society and is an events coordinator for the Campus Activities Board. She’s also an Orientation Leader and a student facilitator for an FYE 100 class.
“I was also fortunate to travel to New Orleans on the 2020 winter Mission Trip with Campus Ministry, which was truly an experience I will never forget,” she said. “I highly recommend students to participate in these trips in the future.”

Wilcox, who earned her GED in 11th grade in order to get an early start in the workforce, has never struggled to engage with other students at St. Joseph’s.
“Even the incoming freshmen who I connected with this last semester during FYE 100 are mature way beyond their years and never treated me any differently because I am older,” she said. “And even on the trip to New Orleans, I felt very comfortable connecting with the other student leaders who attended.”
Wilcox plans on pursuing a master’s degree in accounting in the fall. She will also be studying to become a certified public accountant.
