With the fall semester quickly coming to an end, the Centers for Counseling and Wellness on both campuses are hosting various wellness events to help students thrive throughout the rest of the semester. From yoga classes to art therapy, there is an event for everyone.
Brooklyn Campus Wellness Events
- On Tuesday, November 19, “Think Before you Drink!” will take place on the Brooklyn Campus during common hour. Students will have the opportunity to complete an obstacle course where their vision will be compromised by drunk goggles, in an effort to educate students on the dangers of drinking.
- The Brooklyn Campus will also be hosting de-stress events during common hour before finals, including art and relaxation on Monday, December 2, and puppy therapy on Tuesday, December 3.
Long Island Campus Wellness Events
- As the weather gets colder, Long Island’s Center for Counseling and Wellness is partnering with the Office of Campus Ministry to host a give/get wellness drive from November 4 – November 8 where they will collect items such as tissues, hand sanitizer and cough drops. Those who make a donation will be gifted in return with a free health kit. All of the items will be donated to the Lighthouse Mission in Bellport.
- In collaboration with the Diversity Union, on Wednesday, November 6 during common hour, there will be a self portrait painting event. During the event, attendees will be encouraged to answer the question, “what does health and diversity look like to you?”
- In honor of Veteran’s week, a meditation and yoga class led by Lee Stevens, Vietnam veteran and yoga instructor, will take place on Thursday, November 14 during common hour. The event is open to all students, faculty and staff.
- November is Diabetes Awareness Month. On Wednesday, November 20 during common hour, the Cornell Cooperative Extension will be on campus for a lunch and learn event. Attendees will learn prevention and intervention strategies for diabetes.
- In an effort to promote substance use awareness, there will be a drunk goggle obstacle course on Tuesday, November 19 from 12:30 – 2 p.m.
- The New York Blood Center will host a blood drive on Tuesday, November 26 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Everyone who donates blood will receive a t-shirt.
- On Tuesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 21, the Center for Counseling and Wellness will host a yoga class during common hour.
