With spring break just around the corner, students are gearing up for a much-needed break from their studies. Here are the top six things students are doing with their time off:
1. Traveling
Whether escaping the cold or going on a road trip to the mountains, students are taking this opportunity to step away from their studies and experience something new. From soaking up the sun to exploring new places, traveling is a perfect way to recharge in the middle of the semester.
2. Alternative Spring Break Service Mission Trip
A dedicated group of SJNY students looking to make to an impact on the community during their time off will be embarking on an alternative spring break service mission trip to Chicago. Sponsored by SJNY’s offices of Campus Ministry and the Sisters of St. Joseph, the trip will involve volunteer opportunities at a local food pantry and bilingual high school, as well as partnering with community leaders—all great things for students to add to a growing resume. Campus ministry leaders are traveling with the SJNY students.
3. Socializing and Catching Up with Friends
For many students, spring break is a chance to reconnect with friends and family they haven’t seen in a while. Whether it’s going out or simply spending quality time together, this is the time many students use to catch up on those important relationships.
4. Working
With more free time, students tend to add a few hours onto their work schedule to help pad their bank accounts for the next half of the semester. Fewer commitments during the week mean students can take advantage of the break to earn some extra cash and potentially gain valuable work experience.
5. Relaxing and Recharging
After a busy first half of the semester, some students use their time off to fully decompress. Binge-watching their favorite shows, reading new books, catching up on laundry or just doing nothing—it’s all about recharging and resetting for the rest of the school year.
6. Spring Cleaning and Organizing
Warmer weather is approaching, and students typically prefer to swap out their winter clothes for spring apparel as they indulge in some spring cleaning. Break is the perfect time to deep clean and organize your living space, creating a fresh and comforting environment for the months ahead.
