Laughter filled the air at SJC Brooklyn during Common Hour on Wednesday, as students enjoyed a festive barbecue and a break from the fall semester’s first day of classes.
Undergraduate students trickled into the O’Connor Mall to enjoy the annual Back to School Barbecue. The event is a chance for freshmen and transfer students to meet new friends and for upperclassmen to reunite with classmates.
To help facilitate the fun, there was a blow up tiki bar for smoothies, a “fun snacks” stand (equipped with nachos, sno-cones, popcorn and Dippin’ Dots), a photo favors booth and an array of food that featured hot dogs and hamburgers straight off the barbecue.
Sarah Mennella, a transfer student beginning her junior year, said her first day of classes was a welcoming experience.
“It’s been great,” said Mennella, a marketing major. “It’s a good introduction to what St. Joe’s will be like.”
