The SJC Brooklyn community celebrates the joy of giving back to those in need Friday during the annual Packing Party Palooza in Tuohy Hall.
Faculty, staff and students are collecting non-perishable items for the food drive, benefitting Grandma’s Love, Inc., a Brooklyn-based, non-profit that provides food to elementary school children and their families who might otherwise go hungry. Donors have until Friday morning to drop off non-perishable food.
SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., expressed gratitude for the donations collected for the nonprofit.
“Our annual partnership with Grandma’s Love provides the SJC community with the chance to tangibly express our gratitude for all of the blessings we have received over the past year,” he said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our students — their service and generosity toward others are a fine example of how we as a community live the mission of the College.”
On Friday afternoon, students will gather inside the student government offices to pack bags of donated food. Grandma’s Love identified specific families in need to receive the bags.
The College is aiming to donate 70 bags of food this year. In 2018, the College donated 66 bags bursting with nonperishable food to Grandma’s Love.
The Student Government Association (SGA), the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Students Taking A Role In Positively Empowering Society (S.T.R.I.P.E.S.) have sponsored the packing party.
