Christine Murphy, SJC Brooklyn’s vice president for enrollment management, recently participated in a webinar about higher education.
The Long Island Herald hosted “Staying Local for College” earlier this month, featuring numerous admissions representatives from local colleges and universities.
During the live virtual event, the panel discussed changes to the enrollment process and how local colleges adapted to virtual recruitment events in the age of COVID, as well as transfer opportunities, course flexibility, mental health and plans for moving forward this fall.
“One of the perks and silver linings that we experienced this past year was being able to bring our two campuses, students and faculty together through virtual events,” Murphy said. “Strengthening our program offerings and student life, the pandemic made the miles between the campuses seem much, much smaller.”
Plans for fall 2021 and COVID-19 vaccine regulations were also discussed by the panel. The panelists agreed that they are looking forward to a sense of normalcy and face-to-face interaction among students on their respective campuses in the near future. They also agreed that the pandemic taught the higher education industry how to be more flexible and that it is something that students are hoping will continue.

Murphy was also a panelist at the recent Urban Assembly Speakers Series during a webinar for more than 100 participants. The Urban Assembly is a network of public schools throughout New York City that aims to advance students’ economic and social mobility by improving public education.
Together with Steve Albano, SJC Brooklyn’s director of undergraduate enrollment, Murphy partnered with Marymount Manhattan College, Manhattan College and St. Francis College to host a recent webinar for more than 90 participants about private colleges in New York City.
