It’s no surprise humans are living longer. Over the past several decades, thanks to improved technology, health care has experienced an explosion of innovations that are extending life expectancy and boosting quality of life.
In fact, Americans over the age of 65 in particular are living in better health than ever before.
For Northwell Health, the largest health care provider and private employer in New York state, keeping ahead of the curve is essential.

On Wednesday, John Sardelis, Dr.P.H.; and 20 students from his undergraduate and graduate health care classes visited Northwell’s Center for Learning and Innovation in New Hyde Park. Led by Shashi Deshpande, Northwell’s Project Coordinator, students received a hands-on introduction to groundbreaking new technology in health care.
Students also attended a lecture on data analytics by Jaz-Michael King, CTO of IPRO — a national health care organization that provides services to enhance health care quality and patient outcomes.
“We’re able to offer our students a wide variety of opportunities where they can meet people, they can network and they can see all the innovation that’s happening in the exciting field of health care,” said Dr. Sardelis. “It’s very important for our students to keep ahead of the curve, so when they go into the job market, they’ll have those opportunities that are emerging, and they can become a successful employee in one of the major systems we have here on Long Island.”
“This was a fabulous trip — seeing a 3D printer, the new innovative ideas,” said Alam Hossein ’17. “I’m a clinician at the hospital, so a lot of this is relevant to what I do.”
The SJC/Northwell partnership is a strong one. Just this spring, Northwell Health President and CEO Michael Dowling served as the keynote speaker at SJC’s alumni achievement awards.
