When Ava Snyder began her St. Joseph’s College journey three years ago, she believed nursing would be the perfect fit. She loved science, was fascinated by the complexities of the human body and enjoyed helping others. She was certain SJC Long Island’s nursing program would be a great step toward her dream career.
Studying nursing amid the COVID-19 pandemic reaffirmed that nursing is the right field for Ms. Snyder.
“I feel like society gained a respect and appreciation for nurses, which was amazing,” said Ms. Snyder, who worked this year as a nursing extern at NYU Langone Hospital in Manhattan. “It really showed the true essence of nursing — the way nurses put patient’s needs before their own.”
At NYU Langone, Ms. Snyder works under the supervision of a registered nurse and provides constant observation of patients.
“Being at St. Joe’s, and having all the opportunities, and taking advantage of them has made me a better, more well-rounded, multi-faceted person,” she said.
