Physical distancing doesn’t mean social distancing, especially when it comes to the St. Joseph’s College community.
SJC Long Island students are using social media to stay connected with their classmates, fellow club members and teammates while the stay-at-home order remains in effect.
Here are some of the ways students are staying connected:
Team Bingo Cards
Golden Eagles are filling out Bingo cards and other templates, adding them to their Instagram stories. Student-athletes are using different emojis, stickers, gifs and texts to make the stories unique to them.
Netflix Movie Night
SJC Long Island’s chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) invited fellow students to join their Netflix Party on April 6 to watch “My Beautiful Broken Brain,” a documentary about a woman who suffered a stroke that temporarily left her unable to read, write or speak clearly.
Senior Spotlights
Athletics, clubs and organizations are featuring images and profiles of their members who are seniors, shining a spotlight on those missing out on a typical last semester on campus.
Fall Club Elections
Many clubs and organizations held online elections for their 2020-21 executive board, then introduced the new board members via Instagram posts.
Inspiring Messages
Members of the SJC Long Island chapter of Project Sunshine posted inspiring messages across social media, which were then shared with a local pediatric hospital to bring happiness to the patients.
TikTok Challenges
Different clubs, organizations and athletic teams have been trying their hand at TikTok challenges and sharing the entertaining results.
Open Mics
The SJC Sharps have been holding Virtual Open Mics, sharing videos of members of the club performing songs of their choice.
Virtual Meetings
Just because they’re not on campus together doesn’t mean SJC Long Island students are letting that stop them from getting together with their club members. Many of them continue to host meetings through virtual platforms like Zoom.
Stay at Home Art Show
The SJC Long Island Art Club has been showcasing art from all students interested in sharing their work.
Virtual Concert
Current and past members of the the SJC Shockwaves put together virtual performances via Zoom meetings, which they are sharing out on their Instagram.
