Student volunteers from St. Joseph’s University, New York are participating in a community outreach effort that is providing free income tax preparation services for low and moderately income residents of Bellport.
SJNY alumnus Jack Nix ’16 connected the accounting department at the University with the Bethpage Federal Credit Union (BFCU) officials who are spearheading the effort at South Country Library in Bellport.
The St. Joseph’s students are working together with volunteers at BFCU and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in helping residents prepare and electronically file their tax returns.
Assistance was already provided on Feb. 28. The volunteers will give additional assistance at the library on March 13 and April 10. This marks the second year that BFCU has provided tax return service at the library.
