In honor of Veterans Day, both campuses recently held annual Veterans Day celebrations, honoring those who have served. Joined by members of the Student Veterans of America (SVA), the Office of Military and Veteran Services proudly recognized veterans from not only St. Joseph’s but the community as well, with 2024 SVA Challenge Coins.
“On Veterans Day, we pause to reflect on not only the sacrifices that were made but also the values we embody,” said Joseph Piccoli ’24, president of the Long Island Campus’ SVA and retired U.S. Air Force Warfare Pararescueman. “It is a day to acknowledge a commitment and to remember the courage presented when faced with danger, often without hesitation. Military service is more than just a job, it is a calling, a profound sense of duty that compels us to put the needs of others above our own. Veterans are those who chose to defend what we hold dear, even when the cost was high.”
In addition, Brooklyn’s celebrations included a mass that was presided over by Father Richard Long, Diocese of Brooklyn, and Father Juan Luxama, campus ministry assistant for the Brooklyn Campus.
