Mathematics and Computer Science Double Major with a Concentration in Adolescence Education
Most excited for: I’m SGA president, and I’m looking forward most to seeing what all the clubs and organizations are going to bring to the table. We have a lot of exciting events and activities planned, so I’m excited to see all that happens.
Biggest challenge: This is my first semester where I’m taking strictly math and computer programming courses, so I feel like that’s my biggest challenge — there’s no fun elective courses thrown in. So it’s exciting, but it’s also challenging.
Advice to first-semester self: Try one new thing. Step out of your comfort zone. You don’t have to commit to it, but try something new. It goes a long way.

Most excited for: Getting closer to graduation and applying what I learned at this school in the future.
Biggest challenge: Balancing being a student-athlete with my classes. It was hard at first but you adjust to it.
Advice to first-semester self: Stay on top of your assignments and do whatever you have to do to get that A+.

Biology Major with a Concentration in Adolescence Education
Most excited for: Taking my new upper-level biology courses, learning more about research-based stuff, lecture stuff, just becoming more one with biology. I’m also looking forward to making new connections through new and continued club memberships, and learning a better balance between play and work.
Biggest challenge: Fitting everything in and making enough time for myself.
Advice to first-semester self: Don’t forget to put in the hard work, because it’s going to benefit you later on. But don’t overwork yourself.
Lauren Van Der Kamp ’25
Most excited for: I’m looking forward to softball season and my first nursing class.
Biggest challenge: Managing my time will be a little bit difficult this semester, balancing clubs, a social life and sports. But I think it’ll be fun.
Advice to first-semester self: I would tell myself that staying organized is always key. I got really organized last semester and it made everything so much easier.
