St. Joseph’s University, New York was recently awarded $120,000 by the George I. Alden Trust for the purchase of smart technology equipment for the new Student Center on the University’s Long Island Campus.
Established in 1912, the George I. Alden Trust supports private institutions of higher education located in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and the six states located in New England in efforts that enhance the quality of education for undergraduate students.
“We’re so very grateful for the support of the George I. Alden Trust as we work toward the completion of the new Student Center,” St. Joseph’s University President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., said. “These funds will be used to equip new classrooms with the latest emerging smart technology to ensure that our students receive a rich, impactful educational experience that will prepare them for personal and professional success throughout their lives.”
Funds from the grant will go toward equipping the three academic classrooms and one computer lab located in the new Student Center with modern flexible learning technology to meet the aspirations of the University’s community of scholars and learners. This technology will also enable faculty to deliver course material via lecture or collaborative learning, ensuring students have access to the most appropriate academic environment.
Expanding on the first-class educational experience it delivers to its students, St. Joseph’s University is in the process of building a 32,000-square-foot Student Center at the heart of its Long Island Campus in Patchogue. This new space, slated for completion in the summer of 2023, will become a central hub for student life and a home away from home for nearly 4,000 undergraduate and graduate learners. It will also feature spacious areas for faculty, staff, friends and partners within the community to enjoy.
The George I. Alden Trust was created with interest in funding ‘the promotion of education in schools, colleges, or other educational institutions.’ George Alden, the Trust’s namesake, was an experienced and successful teacher who wanted to ensure that others like him would be aided in their efforts.
Image above: There will be three new classrooms created in the new student center building equipped with modern flexible learning technology. These rooms will seat 25-30 students with flexible seating to accommodate both lecture and collaborative learning.
The Student Center's open computer lab will be an open study room for students to use one of twelve computer workstations, as well as table space for group or individual study for students to bring their own device. There will be outlets and chargers throughout the room, and desks for easy charging. The room will be equipped with a color multifunction printer, allowing students to print, copy or scan documents easily and securely.
