SJC Long Island’s Office of Campus Ministry kicked off its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, providing the campus community an opportunity to live the College’s mission of service this holiday season.
“As we enter into the holiday season, we are always met with a sense of change,” said Cristian Murphy ’14, director of Campus Ministry. “This year, we especially feel this sense of change as we are all still adjusting to the changes within our lives due to the pandemic.
“In the midst of these adjustments, one of the best ways to stay grounded and focused is to offer help to others,” he continued. “This experience of community and fellowship will always make us whole in ways beyond words.”
Thanksgiving Food Drive Donations
Requested items for donation include a Stop & Shop gift card for a turkey, boxed pasta and pasta sauce, rice, boxed mashed potatoes, canned vegetables, canned fruit, stuffing, jars of gravy, boxed dessert mix and bottles of juice.
Donations can be dropped off at the Office of Campus Ministry by Monday, Nov. 22. Donations will be used to support the communities within Wyandanch Homes and Property Development Corporation, the Lighthouse Mission in Patchogue and St. Anthony’s Shelter in the South Bronx.
Questions about the drive can be sent to Murphy at cmurphy3@sjny.edu.
Student-Athletes Support Mission
SJC Long Island’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is also hosting their own Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Anyone interested in donating can bring canned food items to the Danzi Athletic Center by Nov. 23. Donations will help support Island Harvest‘s mission to end hunger on Long Island this holiday season.
