The Brooklyn Voices lecture series will continue this spring in a virtual format on March 31 at 7:30 p.m. with a presentation from former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.
Reich is kicking off the virtual series — hosted by SJC Brooklyn, in partnership with the Greenlight Bookstore — in a Zoom webinar. He is speaking about his book “The System: Who Rigged It, How We Fix It” in a conversation with Anand Giridharadas, editor of Time magazine.
Reich’s book gives an urgent analysis of how the “rigged” systems of American politics and power operate. With the characteristic clarity and passion that has made him a central civil voice, Reich shows how wealth and power have interacted to install an elite oligarchy. Reich’s aim is not to foster cynicism, but to demystify the system to facilitate fundamental change.
Brooklyn Voices was originally slated to take place in SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall, but the lecture was rescheduled to a virtual format because of the ongoing threat of the coronavirus pandemic.
Following Reich, the virtual Brooklyn Voices lecture series will include an April 13 presentation by Tariq Shah, a 2018 graduate of the Writer’s Foundry. Tariq will speak about his new book, “Whiteout Conditions,” in a Zoom webinar.
