Nurses. Teachers. Social Workers.
These are just some of the future careers of the more than 1,000 members of SJC Long Island’s Class of 2021. And once the soon-to-be alumni turn their tassels to the left on June 4, they can’t wait to go out and make their mark on the world through these helping professions.
Here are just a few of the many graduates looking forward to living a life characterized by the College’s five pillars: integrity, intellectual rigor, spiritual depth, social responsibility and service.
Ready to Serve
Meghan Breslin knew she wanted to become a nurse after a close family member was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.
“I got to see the amazing work nurses did to take care of him and decided that’s what I am meant to do with my life,” the nursing major said. “They were comforting, caring and had incredible patience for my family member. I knew I could be that comfort for other people one day, and I looked at SJC to start me on this career path.”
After graduating, Breslin plans to find a job working in the pediatric field, so that she can start making a difference in the lives of her patients early on.
“Nursing is a huge part of my life, and the fact that I get to do that as a career and serve others is truly incredible,” the 22 year-old Medford resident said. “I have a passion for serving others, and I am so thankful that SJC has given me the opportunity to make that a part of my career.”
Additionally, Breslin, a 2017 graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School, is thankful to the friends and faculty that helped her get to where she is today.
“Going through the nursing program is not easy, and having friends to get you through is something that I’m grateful for,” she said. “These are friendships that will last a lifetime. I would also like to thank all of the staff members in the nursing department for their constant support over these past four years. I would not have made it through the program without them.”
