SJC Long Island’s Cristian Murphy ’14, director of the Office of Campus Ministry, welcomed a few of the Sisters of St. Joseph onto the Awe & Wonder show to celebrate their time at the College, thank them for their dedication and commitment to the SJC community, and say farewell as they prepare to move on to different opportunities.
“We went into these conversations really thinking we’d just capture some history and learn a little bit,” Murphy said in the third and final video as part of the “Farewell Conversations with Sisters” series. “But it ended up being so much more, in the sense that the spirit of what they had to say — about collaborating with others, about community, about really inviting God into our lives in a personal manner — was so fruitful and so amazing.”
Featured in the videos are S. Suzanne Franck, C.S.J., Ph.D., the original founder of Campus Ministry, who served the College for 26 years in such roles as associate professor of religious studies and director of the Academic Advisement Center; S. Karen Donohue, C.S.J., assistant dean for scholarship maintenance and academic events, who joined the College in 2000 and is celebrating her 50th year as a Sister of St. Joseph; and S. Mary Ann Cashin, C.S.J., who worked within the Department of Child Study at the College for 21 years.
“There’s always moments in the classroom where I’m awed — by the level of faith, by the level of spirituality, the level of questioning, awed by their knowledge sometimes,” S. Suzanne said of the students she worked with at St. Joseph’s College. “So as much as I have taught them something, I have learned equally as much, and they have been a gift in my life.”
