As part of a comprehensive effort to keep the College community healthy and safe as it returns to in-person learning this fall, St. Joseph’s College commissioned a public service announcement (PSA) to encourage the College community to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible.
The video features St. Joseph’s alumna Sandra Lindsay RN ’99, DHSc, director of patient care services, critical care at Long Island Jewish Hospital and the first person to be vaccinated for COVID-19 in the United States. Faculty, alumni and students from both campuses share their reasons why they got vaccinated and urge others to get vaccinated, so that they can safely enjoy life on and off campus in spite of the pandemic.
“When I had the opportunity to be vaccinated, I didn’t hesitate,” Dr. Lindsay says in the PSA. “I knew that the vaccine was and still is our best defense against severe illness and death.”
For students with exemptions and who are still completing their course of vaccination, testing is being held on Thursdays in September and then Wednesdays on SJC Long Island from October to December at the Danzi Athletic Center from noon-2 p.m. Testing will take place in St. Angela Hall at SJC Brooklyn on Thursdays from noon-2 p.m.
“My colleagues and I have been working feverishly to put an end to this pandemic and help people get back to the things they love,” Dr. Lindsay says. “But we need your support. So get vaccinated today so the only concern you will have is getting good grades, not COVID-19.”
