SJC Long Island welcomed nearly 800 prospective students and their families to Open House on Sunday, Oct. 24.
Visitors had the chance to meet and speak with professors, hear from students about clubs and organizations, learn about the admissions process and financial aid opportunities, and explore the campus.
“This was our first in-person Open House since the pandemic and I have to say, it was awesome!” Andrea Volk ’04, director of undergraduate admissions and admissions operations, said.
The College put in place safety protocols and the event was reimagined, offering prospective students and their families a more individualized look at the programs, activities and services the College offers while they went on self-guided tours.
“Our guests were thrilled that they had the opportunity to shape their own visit and learn about areas of interest at their own pace,” Volk said. “Faculty, staff and administration so appreciated the new format, which allowed for a more personal and intimate interaction with prospective students and their families. We could not be happier with the outcome and are looking forward to welcoming new students to our SJC community!”

Guests also heard from St. Joseph’s College President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., and Eileen White Jahn, Ph.D., executive dean and professor of business administration.
“At St. Joseph’s, we’re focused on the full experience of the student — so not only the mind, but the heart as well,” Dr. Boomgaarden said. “And in all of those activities in your classes, you will meet wonderful professors that will become your mentors, staff members that will become your supporters, and classmates who will become your friends for life.”
Prospective students interested in adult professional studies, graduate and online programs are invited to attend an additional Open House at SJC Long Island on Saturday, Nov. 6.
