The Long Island Campus hosted its annual St. Joseph’s Day Celebration and Mass Wednesday, March 22, in honor of the University’s namesake.
The event, held during common hour in the Muriel and Virginia Pless Center for Performing Arts, drew together students, faculty and staff as beloved Sisters of St. Joseph renewed their vows.
“Today we honor the Sisters of St. Joseph for all their courage and hard work, and for their dedication here at the University,” said Father Francis “Frank” Pizzarelli, S.M.M., DCSW, who led Mass and blessed the St. Joseph’s Day pastries. “We offer the Eucharist this afternoon for the Sisters in gratitude for their witness, service and power of example.”
Campus Ministry hosted the annual celebration with the help of the Office of Student Involvement, Leadership and Intercultural Engagement.
The overall message to the audience that day was to “rise to the occasion.”
“Rise to the occasion and make a difference, just like Joseph did with Mary and Jesus,” Fr. Frank stressed. “And the Sisters did this over 100 years ago, during a time when education wasn’t as available for women. Keep this in your minds and your hearts moving forward. Rise to the occasion and make a difference, no matter what you’re faced with.”

So nice to see the Sisters. Sister Maryann Cashin was the elem. School principal when I attended. Really good to see her doing well.
