Gagliardi Breaks Single-Game Points Record in 8-1 Win Over Brooklyn College
Sophomore Christina Gagliardi broke the SJC Long Island soccer program’s single-game points and goals records Sept. 9 with a 12-point, five-goal performance during the Eagles’ 8-1 win over Brooklyn College.
The Sachem North High School alum opened the scoring for St. Joseph’s in the 12th minute, and just five minutes later netted her second goal of the season before tallying her first career hat trick in the 29th minute.
Gagliardi of Ronkonkoma continued her scoring streak later in the first half, slotting home two more goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes to give SJC a commanding 5-0 lead. Later, she added two assists, giving her 12 points for the game. Only two other Division III players across the country have tallied more points in a single game this season.
The win was also first-year head coach Rafael Morais’ first SJC victory.
Women’s Tennis Upends New Rochelle to Notch First Win for Coach Gil
On Sept. 19, the Bears’ Women’s Tennis team notched their first win for first-year head coach Eduardo Gil.
Junior Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour), senior Kathryn Brucas (Richmond Hill, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and sophomore Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) each secured wins in singles and doubles to lead the St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) to a 6-3 victory over The College of New Rochelle in their home opener at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Three First-Place Finishes for Three-Time Skyline Runner of the Week
Senior Erin MacDonell of Sayville earned her third first-place finish of the year in as many races Sept. 23, posting a program-best 5k time of 18:10.8 at the Bard College Invitational. A three-time Skyline Runner of the Week and the ECAC Runner of the Week on Sept. 13, MacDonell powered the SJC women to a first-place finish in a field of 18 teams.
Freshman Deserae Sequeira Leads D-III Soccer in Several Offensive Categories
Also on Sept. 19, freshmen Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) lifted SJC Brooklyn women’s soccer over the University of Valley Forge. Both rookies tallied a hat trick in the win, helping the team to its first three-game winning streak since 2014.
Sequeira rose to the top of three D-III offensive categories: Goals Per Game (2.25), Points Per Game (5.75) and Shots Per Game (10.5).
Finally, the win capped off 290 straight minutes of shutout soccer, the longest such streak in program history.

SJC Bears Runner Justin Russell Collects Program’s First Skyline Rookie of the Week Honors
SJC Brooklyn sophomore Justin Russell (Saline, Mich./Saline) was named the Skyline Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Russell collected the first Skyline accolade in program history.
