For Victor Naci ‘25, the opportunity to attend school in New York City was a dream come true. As an international student from France, Naci was drawn to the Big Apple as a global hub for art, business, food and culture. It helped him make his decision to come to St. Joseph’s University, New York’s Brooklyn campus.
With a need to fuel his competitive spirit, Naci joined the University’s Brooklyn Bears soccer team, winning Offensive Player of the Year in the Skyline Conference twice in a three season span. A pivotal moment for Naci was his team making into the Skyline Conference playoffs in his senior year season, getting as far as the semifinals—a first in Brooklyn Bear soccer history.
On the field isn’t the only place Naci found success at St. Joe’s. In the classroom, he majored in organizational management and pursued a minor in business administration and a concentration in marketing, advertising and promotion. Naci hopes to bring the business acumen he acquired at SJNY back to France where he plans to take the next steps towards his future career.
“I aim to complete my master’s degree in France over one or two years in the wine and spirits sector in Bordeaux, then in Paris as an internship,” Naci said.
He wants to continue playing the game he’s loved since he was child, too.
“Alongside everything, I want to go back to playing soccer for my childhood club,” he added.
Throughout his academic journey, Naci had the support of St. Joseph’s faculty. He cited his adviser, Assistant Dean Angela Diaz, as having a major impact on him.
“She went out of her way so that I could succeed. I will forever be grateful to her,” he shared.
Alongside faculty, Naci greatly credits the University with preparing him for the path ahead. While the business program readied him for a future career, his professors were attentive and direct, offering the guidance needed to find success, both on the field and in the classroom, he said.
When it comes to inspiration from outside the University, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that world-renowned soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo tops Naci’s list. On a more personal front, he is inspired by his parents, whose love and support allowed him to move to America to pursue his education.
As for lasting advice he would offer to the next generation, Naci’s response was straightforward and simple.
“Just be yourself and believe in your dreams,” he said.
