SJC Long Island’s Office of Campus Ministry is hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive, providing the College community with a safe option to serve others this holiday season.
“I find that each year, we have an opportunity to recalibrate our hearts through acts of service and giving,” said Director of Campus Ministry Cristian Murphy. “It is through initiatives like this food drive that we can be reminded of the fact that we are not alone in this world.”
Food Basket Donations
Contributors looking to donate to the Thanksgiving Food Drive are encouraged to give what they can on their own, or to partner up with classmates, club members and teammates to provide a food basket for a family.
An entire food basket would include one food market gift card for a turkey, four canned vegetables, four canned fruits, two bags/boxes of stuffing, one jar of gravy, one box of dessert mix and one bottle of juice (either apple, cranberry or orange).
“This past year has become a constant source of humility and awareness,” Murphy said. “Awareness of the fact that we are not one, but rather a community, and that we only get through tough times by the grace of God and community fellowship. This year, we must all step up and be there for each other, more than ever before.”
All donations must be dropped off at the Office of Campus Ministry by Friday, Nov. 20. Donations will be brought to the Lighthouse Mission, Wyandanch Homes/Services, Long Island Cares and Masjid Pantry. Any questions can be sent to Murphy at cmurphy3@sjny.edu.
