Eighty-five golfers joined St. Joseph’s College on a sunny Thursday afternoon at The Muttontown Club in East Norwich to support SJC student-athletes during the 30th annual Golf Classic.

The June 17 golf outing raised more than $125,000, directly benefitting athletic programming at SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island. Atlantic, Tomorrow’s Office and Edwards & Company were title sponsors for the event.
The Thomas J. Wendt Award for Community Service was awarded to Christa Puccio-Gallo and Larry Weiss, who owns Atlantic, Tomorrow’s Office.
The award is in memory of SJC Long Island alumnus Thomas Wendt ’88, who was involved with many clubs and organizations as a student and later worked at the College as the assistant to the director of student services. He also taught a freshman humanities course. Wendt died in 2004 and since then, his friends, family and colleagues established an award in his name to recognize great community service — something Wendt was passionate about.
It was a day full of energy, supporting the virtue of service and St. Joseph’s College students. Jessica Meotti, St. Joseph’s associate director of special events, expressed her gratitude for the generous donors who contributed to the day’s success.
“We are so pleased with the outcome of this year’s Golf Classic, celebrating 30 years of this long-standing tradition, directly supporting student-athletes for both SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island,” Meotti said. “The support we received from the SJC community, alumni and vendors was outstanding. I would like to give a special thank you to Atlantic, Tomorrow’s Office, and Christa Puccio-Gallo for her hard work and generosity to make this year’s event a true success.”
