Social media is connecting SJC Brooklyn students while they finish the spring semester remotely.
All St. Joseph’s College classes moved to a remote setting in March to comply with New York state’s social distancing mandates to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. But no matter how far apart the College community is physically, students continue to stay connected through social media.
Ray Castillo, president of SJC Brooklyn’s Poder Latino club, noted how important it is to maintain some sort of connection between students. Last week, his club hosted a live performance by Carlos Andrés Gómez, a spoken word artist, using Zoom.
“I think it’s important for students to participate in virtual campus events during this time to stay connected with the SJC community,” said Castillo, a sophomore double majoring in mathematics and computer science. “It is also a way for students to have a little bit of fun during the rest of the semester, and to keep their minds off things that cause them stress.”
