When the College first opened its doors in 1916, it offered physical training through floor work, aesthetic gymnastics, folk dance, games and military tactics — all for just five bucks.
Amalia Simonetti, a member of the Class of 1920, was the first St. Joseph’s College graduate to become a doctor.
SJC Brooklyn’s The Parlors appeared in an episode of Law & Order as the apartment of a character played by Angela Lansbury.
Those are some examples of the many details people can learn about the College’s more than 100-year history when they examine past yearbooks, magazines, memorabilia, videos and 3,000+ photographs in the McEntegart Hall Library Archives, all available online.
“We’ve scanned a tremendous amount of material over the years, and that’s how we got the pictures online,” St. Joseph’s Executive Director of Libraries Elizabeth Pollicino Murphy, Ed.D., said last November during an event that introduced alumni to the archives and showed them how to explore the College’s history online.
